The Witch (2016)
Movies | Horror
Excellent acting by everyone and staging that builds mounting dread. Get good headphones and watch on a big screen if you can, because you will need subtitles in some places.
This channel holds a collection of storytelling media like movies, TV shows, documentaries and games.
You will find the following on the individual collection pages too.
None of the entries is formal critiques. I may describe something, or leave an entry or portions within it blank. Deal with it.
Almost all the entries will be titles I enjoyed or recommend or just want to list on my website. So, if you ever feel like watching something in a particular genre, you can hopefully find something in here. Inevitably, there would be things you don’t agree with or find faults in. Such is the thing with creative arts.
I don’t see myself writing lengthy posts commenting on technical details on a particular title of a particular medium. I originally built this space just as an experiment mixing web development, automation and AI. But I kept it because it is my personal website after all, and thinking I need to explain any section’s purpose at length seems unnecessary.
Overall, I choose to show this space because there’s a human commitment visible in such media. They are fundamentally optimistic acts. To make a film, write a television series, craft a documentary or design a game is to believe that art and storytelling from your perspective matter. You may not appreciate its bits or its whole immediately. You may be halfway into a game’s story before you begin to understand a character’s motivations or a game’s mechanics. You may like a movie only when rewatching it with an unburdened mind. You may care about a documentary’s subject only after absorbing opinions about it online. All this is fine. I don’t believe creative artists ask for an audience that is perfectly primed to be their product’s advocates. This space is simply about listing the titles I liked and reasoning through them as time permits.

Movies | Comedy
Constant Hollywood satire with a surprisingly energetic performance from quite a cast in ridiculous situations. Some of the humour relies more on shock value than on witty situational writing. Still, I’m unsure whether movies like this can still be made!
TV Shows | Drama, Thriller
Not much needs to be said about Breaking Bad. It’s just astoundingly magnificent in building a whole set of characters. So many intricate details!
Movies | Action, Thriller
Remarkably well-made movie in difficult locations. Once it gets going, it has relentless pacing and sustains a vivid wilderness chase. The physical brutality can put off some but nearly everything in the movie plays a role.
TV Shows | Drama, Thriller
Brilliantly well-made and gripping from day one! Every cast member’s excellent acting carries the story forward in a tense atmosphere. The plot gets pretty dense and paranoid, but it pays off completely. If you stick with it, you will be rewarded.
Games | Action, Sci-Fi
An exquisitely polished sequel that hooks you from its starting moments itself with a big visual leap in the vibrant wilds and even bigger machines! Aloy’s world journey continues and the story expands even more nicely with new places. Truly built for big screen 4K!
Games | Action, Sci-Fi
A really rare product of everything being exceptionally well-made!! An interesting, seriously smooth gameplay driven by an excellent story that keeps growing. And they released a stunning remastered version! Jump in!
Games | Action
A glorious finale for a treasure hunter that takes you on a hunt across such diverse gorgeous landscapes after a pirate fortune, blending cinematic set pieces with themes of letting go.
Games | Action, Sci-Fi, RPG
Incredible game! The neon dystopia of Night City with an amazing story and excellent fluid gameplay. One of gaming industry’s most notable comeback stories of a seriously rocky launch and turning it around into one of the most stable and stunning worlds.
Games | Sci-Fi
I tried to get into it but my main annoyance was the excessive clutter seen during load-out and some other parts. But beyond that, most of the moments were really interesting. I want to pick it up again and move to its sequel: On The Beach.
Games | Action
A visual feast with a well-crafted story of Jin’s struggle between honour and survival! I really liked the painterly tribute and visual atmosphere in different areas. I just found the softer measured tone of characters, especially Jin, in the English audio to be a better fit.
Games | Action
An epic trilogy taking you through Lara’s growth from fearful to fearless with gritty survival action, smooth gameplay and clever tomb puzzles! I felt the combat loops got a bit repetitive into the trilogy, but the sense of adventure never dropped. It’s still excellent to play today!
