Shōgun (2024-running)
TV Shows | Drama
I found Shōgun to be very well-made and wonderfully detailed! The characters, acting, dialogue and political scheming are built up with patience. Best to watch on a big screen because you will need subtitles.
This channel holds a collection of storytelling media like movies, TV shows, documentaries and games.
You will find the following on the individual collection pages too.
None of the entries is formal critiques. I may describe something, or leave an entry or portions within it blank. Deal with it.
Almost all the entries will be titles I enjoyed or recommend or just want to list on my website. So, if you ever feel like watching something in a particular genre, you can hopefully find something in here. Inevitably, there would be things you don’t agree with or find faults in. Such is the thing with creative arts.
I don’t see myself writing lengthy posts commenting on technical details on a particular title of a particular medium. I originally built this space just as an experiment mixing web development, automation and AI. But I kept it because it is my personal website after all, and thinking I need to explain any section’s purpose at length seems unnecessary.
Overall, I choose to show this space because there’s a human commitment visible in such media. They are fundamentally optimistic acts. To make a film, write a television series, craft a documentary or design a game is to believe that art and storytelling from your perspective matter. You may not appreciate its bits or its whole immediately. You may be halfway into a game’s story before you begin to understand a character’s motivations or a game’s mechanics. You may like a movie only when rewatching it with an unburdened mind. You may care about a documentary’s subject only after absorbing opinions about it online. All this is fine. I don’t believe creative artists ask for an audience that is perfectly primed to be their product’s advocates. This space is simply about listing the titles I liked and reasoning through them as time permits.

TV Shows | Fantasy
A surprisingly imaginative adaptation that’s very faithful to the books, with exceptional visual design and acting, especially for Lyra, Coulter and Asriel. The story and quality scaled with every season. I wish they had explained some things more. But watch it if you get a chance, on a good screen!
Movies | Drama, Thriller
I watched this mainly for Joaquin Phoenix’s magnetic performance, though the film certainly has moments that leave a strong impression. It felt less self-important and more focused on showing his internal justification. Or perhaps that simply depends on the viewing perspective.
TV Shows | Drama, Thriller
I found the early seasons to be really entertaining with rich visual design, high production standards, great storylines and dialogues carried by strong steady acting. But somewhere along the seasons, it started losing its pull. Just watch it for the first season at least!
Movies | Drama, Comedy
TV Shows | Horror, Thriller
A surprise in the good way! The first season is exceptionally well-made, has monsters in more forms and is packed with a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere! Bringing new dread to Earth was built up remarkably well, with really good visual effects. Acting is great too!
Movies | Drama
Made in 1976 and it still holds strong! I found it to be an unvarnished look at alienation and street-level detail, with a narrative that becomes bleaker but somehow firm towards the end. The camera work is amazing, along with the exceptional acting.
TV Shows | Thriller
Not usually available on most platforms. It is visually striking with hyper-saturated colours, conspiracy dread, and chaotic energy! The display of violence is discomforting for sure.
TV Shows | Comedy
Hilarious British sitcom with chaotic energy and endlessly quotable banter! The basement trio and characters like Douglas and Richmond make even ridiculous setups work so well. I wish there was less laugh soundtrack, but it doesn’t stop being funny.
TV Shows | Action, Horror, Thriller
Back when Netflix used to be good. This is an excellent mix of politics and relentless zombie dread! The gorgeous cinematography, costume details and pacing pull you right in, even when the court plots get dense. Watch it with the original Korean audio and subtitles on a big good screen! Worth it!

I found it to be a charming chaotic chemistry among three escapees enveloped in wonderful colour grading and visual style, mixed with folk soundtrack, and ridiculous moments in comical stories and characters.
Movies | Thriller, Action
Every actor in this movie gives great performances, but Javier Bardem delivers an iconic villain! It is slow but methodical, capturing so many excellent shots!
