Constant Hollywood satire with a surprisingly energetic performance from quite a cast in ridiculous situations. Some of the humour relies more on shock value than on witty situational writing. Still, I’m unsure whether movies like this can still be made!

Remarkably well-made movie in difficult locations. Once it gets going, it has relentless pacing and sustains a vivid wilderness chase. The physical brutality can put off some but nearly everything in the movie plays a role.

I watched this mainly for Joaquin Phoenix’s magnetic performance, though the film certainly has moments that leave a strong impression. It felt less self-important and more focused on showing his internal justification. Or perhaps that simply depends on the viewing perspective.

Made in 1976 and it still holds strong! I found it to be an unvarnished look at alienation and street-level detail, with a narrative that becomes bleaker but somehow firm towards the end. The camera work is amazing, along with the exceptional acting.

Quite a brilliantly well-made thriller movie that is equally difficult and gripping to watch. Obviously not an easy movie because of the topics and the way it shows them. But truly a stunning movie.
Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)

One of the best American Western movies with an interesting story told through incredibly long shots zoomed way into characters and way out to amazing landscapes, acting, techniques and music that just come together for an entertaining ~3 hours.

Finally, a good movie in the Alien franchise! I found this to be a really good surprise that brings and builds the dread and horror in some amazing moments, but the main small weakness is the lost opportunity by messing up few key moments by characters.

Like Prometheus, which was released 5 years earlier, Covenant also feels CGI-heavy and rushed but with characters that are less memorable. Some great moments but it feels like a sequel to a sequel in some strange way.

The movie drops an elite rescue squad in a gorgeous rainforest where you watch them dominate and try to survive. Full of great moments from a cast and crew you can feel working hard in a harsh environment, making smart choices despite tough challenges. Not hard to see why it has become a legend.

I found it to be gorgeously detailed from its expansive scale to its minute designs and effects. The pacing does feel uneven but then again, it is a visual treat. Watch it in 4K on a big TV, if you can!
